X – formerly Twitter – suffered widespread outages on Thursday in several countries on both its social media app and website, impacting tens of thousands of users.
Frustrated users in countries including the UK, US and India were logging onto the hugely popular social media platform – owned by multi-billionaire Elon Musk – only to be presented with a message reading “Welcome to X”, instead of the regular tweets on their feed.
The latest data from Downdetector.com showed there had been more than There have been over 70,000 reports of problems on the platform from across multiple countries since 5.30am.
Those users on X’s blue tick premium subscription service, X Pro, were also encountering problems, with their feeds simply showing a message that read: “Waiting for posts.”
By 7am, the X social media app and website appeared to be returning to normal for some users.
The reason behind the global outage remains unclear, with X yet to publicly comment on the issues.
