Ex-Hurricane Nigel will batter the UK with tropical storm vortex

The UK will be hit by the remnants of a hurricane in a powerful storm ‘vortex’ – bringing yet more heavy rain.

We be seeing off Hurricane Lee which prompted flood warnings across northern England and Wales yesterday and today, but another is just around the corner.

But forecasters have warned that the remnants of Hurricane Nigel will sweep across the UK on over the weekend to bring more brutal weather.

The Met Office said: “On Sunday, we will start to see the influence of ex-tropical Hurricane Nigel, which will be offshore in the mid-Atlantic.

“These systems have a long reach.

“It will increase rainfall rates and also winds to bring unsettled weather to the UK.”

Steve Willington is a Chief Forecaster with the Met Office talked about the ferocious weather we’ve seen over the last few days – and also warned there’s more to come.

He said: “The weekend’s severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, and their associated impacts, have marked a transition between the heat of last week and the more Atlantic-dominated weather in the forecast for the coming week.”

Speaking about the incoming weather systems, expert Jim Dale said the UK would be hit by not just one – but three ex-hurricanes going into next week.

He said: “The ashes of ex-hurricanes Lee & Margot impacting the UK next couple of days.

“Afterburners of newly formed Hurricane Nigel, scuffing past northwest Scotland this weekend. 

“Western areas of the UK especially northwest will have an overload of rain.”

However, maps show much of UK will feel the brutal impact of Nigel as it heads north with both Sunday and Monday affected.

Five day forecast

Today:

A band of heavy rain will continue southeastwards today, though lingering across southeast England in the afternoon.

Behind this turning fresher with sunny spells and showers. A windy day especially on exposed coasts, but easing during the day for most.

Tonight:

Rain slow to clear in the southeast.

Elsewhere blustery showers slowly easing during the evening in land, but remaining on western coasts. Windy, but easing slowly.

Thursday:

Sunny spells and heavy blustery showers, with the odd rumble of thunder. Winds generally light outside of showers in the south, but still windy in the north.

Friday-Sunday:

Often changeable with sunshine and scattered showers, heavy and thundery at times. Drier on Saturday with sunnier spells. Remaining blustery, especially along the coasts and feeling cool.
