Young boy tragically dies after being hit by truck as he stepped off school bus

A 13-year-old boy was killed just moments after he stepped off his school bus excited to get home to see his beloved dog.

Australian Joshua Pike was hit by a delivery truck as he tried to cross the road in Appin, New South Wales, about 60 miles southeast of Sydney, Australia.

Heartbreaking CCTV footage shows the youngster in the road after the incident on Wednesday, October 11 before he was rushed to Westmead Children’s Hospital.

According to a GoFundMe page set up for his family, Joshua spent a week fighting for his life in the Sydney hospital before he succumbed to his injuries.

In a touching move his relatives gave permission for his organs to be donated to help save the lives of others.

On the GoFundMe page raising money for Joshua and his family, a statement read: “He stepped off the bus, excited to get home and see his dog Xena, went to cross the road and unfortunately didn’t see the oncoming truck which he collided with.

“Rushed over to Westmead Children’s Hospital, where Josh has spent the last week fighting his beautiful little heart out to beat the horrific injuries he sustained.

“He has fought and fought with all the power and energy he could, unfortunately the injuries were so severe that God decided to take him home.”

The posting on the fundraising site, which has been approved by Joshua’s family, has amassedmore than £27,000.

It continued: “The fight he put up was something to be in awe of, he did this so he was able to donate his organs to enable other kids and adults to continue living their life.

“Josh’s love and kindness will live on in others, in the most positive and most giving way a young hero like Josh can.

“Josh is a beautiful kid, who lived life to the fullest. A character, a crazy, crazy, laugh a minute. Anyone who not only knew him, but was lucky enough to have him in their life, it was an honour.”

The statement concluded thanking those who have donated and by saying Joshua “will be missed more than you could possibly imagine”.

According to Australian media a 38-year-old man behind the wheel of the truck was uninjured and underwent mandatory testing at Cambelltown Hospital. Investigations into the incident have continued.
