Russian defence minister Sergei Shoigu on potential Ukrainian attack on Crimea
Satellite images have revealed the huge damage caused by the devastating Ukrainian drone strike on one of Russia’s Black Sea bases in Crimea as the war with Ukraine surges to new heights.
Fighting in Russian-occupied Crimea has intensified over recent days with Ukraine battling to reclaim the peninsula that was annexed back in 2014.
Now revealing satellite images have been released showing the aftermath of a Ukrainian strike on a Russian Black Sea Fleet command post near the village of Verkhnosadove that occurred on Wednesday.
The Planet Lab satellite pictures show at least one building was damaged by the explosion in the area, and part of it was completely destroyed.

The strike has been seen as particularly significant as the 744th Communications Centre of the occupiers’ Black Sea Fleet Command is located there, according to a map of military facilities by Radio Liberty.
On Wednesday, the Department of Strategic Communications of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported a successful strike was carried out on the command post near the village of Verkhnosadovo near the temporarily occupied Sevastopol.
Nearly two dozen drone strikes were targeted at Crimea on Wednesday, with explosions hitting Sevastopol and Evpatoria as well as Saki, Novofedorovka, Dzhankoy and Balaklava.
Ukraine also launched drone strikes on the Russian regions of Kursk, Belgorod and Oryol as the 19-month-long war with Russia rapidly intensifies.
Ukrainian air defences destroyed 20 incoming cruise missiles over the capital of Kyiv, but at least seven people were reportedly injured.

In the central Ukrainian city of Cherkasy, at least 23 people were wounded, with Russian sources claiming they hit a hotel housing “foreign mercenaries”.
Meanwhile, a missile attack on Kherson reportedly killed two people, and six missiles hit the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv.
These latest overnight attacks came after an analyst told Daily Express US that Joe Biden could provide America’s devastating ‘wonder weapon’ to Ukraine following talks with President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Mykola Volkivskyi – a former advisor to Ukraine’s Parliament who is in Washington for the upcoming talks – said the longer-range ATACMS missile system would be “crucial” in Ukraine’s fight against Russia.
He said: “It is clear that the supply of weapons and an increase in their number will be the number one topic of the talks. I think that a new military aid package will be announced following the meeting.
“Announcements on ATACMS may come at the talks. I think Zelensky has every opportunity to convince Biden to hand over the missiles by showing him the course of events on the Ukrainian front.”
The missiles, which have been dubbed the “wonder weapon” for their pinpoint accuracy, are launched from- the HIMARS rocket launcher and can target up to 190 miles.
Several analysts believe they could be used more quickly on the battlefield than current longer-range weapons such as the British Storm Shadow missile which is plane-launched.
