A nan was left in severe pain and unable to walk for a week after using a product she bought in Home Bargains.
Looking for something to help with her dry skin, Helen Kavanagh, 71, came across an "exfoliating heel peel" from Health Point in Home Bargains in Kirkby town centre. Suffering from eczema, Helen thought this product might help relieve her heels and help with her discomfort, reports Liverpool ECHO.
Helen, originally from Kirkby and living in Croxteth, said she used the exfoliant for an hour on her heels before washing it off – but she was shocked by the results.

Helen told the ECHO: "I used it for one hour and I had no skin left on my heels.
"I was shocked to think that it could have done that. It took the whole of my heel off and it was red raw.”
A description of the product recommends doing a patch test before use and warns "If any itching, rash or reddening occurs do not use the product." The product description adds that feet "may exfoliate to a higher extent than others.”

Helen said she won't be using the product again and wants to warn others about what happened. She added: "I just think it's my fault for buying it – and when I gave it more thought, I thought it should come off the shelves or carry a warning with it.”
A spokesperson for Home Bargains told the ECHO it is "happy to work with the customer to attempt to find a resolution". Health Point was also approached by the ECHO but declined to comment and advised Helen to contact them.
