A man died and two other people were injured, one critically, after a shooting Monday night in Denver’s City Park West neighborhood.
The shooting happened on 17th Avenue near the intersection with Gilpin Street, Denver police said in a 10:04 p.m. post on X.
Police originally reported three people injured in the shooting, but later clarified only two people were shot. The third person was injured in a crash after the shooting.
Police said the suspected shooter fired shots, hitting a man driving on 17th. The man crashed, and his passenger was injured in the crash. The man shot died from his injuries.
A security guard in the area who saw the crash stopped to help, and the suspect also shot him, police said. He is in critical condition.
The suspect then fled the scene in the security guard’s vehicle, police said, and officers later stopped him near Colfax Avenue and Lincoln Street using a precision immobilization technique, or PIT maneuver. He is now in custody.
