Locations of five new Wilko stores as axed brand makes unexpected return

Five Wilko shops will reopen in time for Christmas after the beloved brand shut all its high street branches earlier this year.

Two store locations have been confirmed and a further three are rumoured to be in the works after the brand's new owner announced the shop would make a return for the festive period, the Daily Star previously reported. More stores are set to open up in January.

A spokesperson for the retail group said: "We're launching five Wilko stores pre-Christmas, two stores are already announced, the remainder will be confirmed imminently.

"In addition, and to support our roll-out ambition, we're in discussions with landlords across the UK with a view to opening more stores from January.

"We're excited at the prospect of offering opportunities in local communities up and down the country."

Some 400 Wilko stores shut their doors earlier this year after the brand went into administration. The brand's name was then bought by The Range in the summer.

CDS Superstores, trading as The Range and Wilko, are set to relaunch the shop in England, Scotland and Wales in the coming months, much to the delight of shoppers.

So far, new store locations are set to reopen in Plymouth and Exeter. According to The Sun, the other three rumoured locations set to open in December are: Llewellyn Walk, Llywelyn Road, Cwmbran, South Wales; Central Walk, Hucknall, Nottingham; and The Luton Arndale Centre, Luton, Bedfordshire. The company also said it will be opening Wilko shops in Northern Ireland for the first time.

Alex Simpkin, boss of CDS Superstores, said yesterday: "It’s clear that there’s a huge love for Wilko and we've seen an encouraging demand for the return of its own-brand products."

Administrators from PwC ultimately sold a raft of Wilko's assets in order to help pay off its outstanding debts after failing to secure a rescue deal for the entirety of the 93-year-old retail chain. The Range's owner bought the Wilko brand, website and IP in a £5million deal last month.

The Range also started to sell Wilko products across its estate of 210 UK stores.
