King Charles warns of ‘existential’ global warning before jumping on private jet

King Charles has been criticised for doing a “Biggles” by flying in a private plane between two French cities.

The monarch and Camilla flew the short 360-mile trip a day after preaching about the "existential threat" of global warming to the Paris Senate.

The Paris to Bordeaux hop has been ditched by Air France after the French Government banned internal flights of less than two hours 30 minutes for ecological reasons.

Travellers can make the journey in just over two hours on a direct high-speed train, just 45 minutes longer than flying. French Green MP Sandra Regol said it was “very disappointing”. Green news outlet Reporterre said: "The ecological results of Charles III’s trip to France are not rosy."

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said the decision was "made on the advice of the French authorities".

Earlier this week, the King said Britain and France needed to "strive together to protect the world from our most existential challenge of all – that of global warming". A day earlier Prime Minister Rishi “Biggles” Sunak, who loves flying in his government chopper, scaled back on green pledges to achieve net zero.

It was on this recent trip to France where some Royal Family fans picked up on the bigger-than-usual fingers of their beloved monarch. King Charles' so-called "sausage hands" had swollen to astronomical proportions, and a doctor has explained why.

Dr Chun Tang said the King could be suffering from "inflammation" that may lead to a slate of medical worries.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Dr Tang said: "Often puffy fingers are a symptom of water retention which can be caused by numerous health conditions. This condition arises due to inflammation and can be a result of arthritis, multiple bacterial infections or even TB.

"Other possibilities include high salt levels, allergic reactions, medicinal side effects, injury and autoimmune disease."
