Jerusalem is on high alert as Israeli security forces launch a massive clampdown in response to escalating threats of violence.
Israeli forces are flooding the streets of Jerusalem, fearing that Hamas’ “day of rage” could spill over into widespread unrest, as reported by The Mirror.
The city, already on edge, has been rocked by days of shootings, fuelled by the horrors of the recent Hamas-Israel war, which has claimed nearly 3,000 lives in a matter of days.
Heavily armed troops and mounted police, with automatic weapons, have converged on the al-Aqsa Mosque area, which stands at the epicentre of Hamas’ call to arms.
The Mirror’s Chris Hughes, in Jerusalem, reported a palpable sense of fear and tension, with locals too terrified to venture out due to the heightened security measures.

Even during prayers, the streets are being closely monitored by Israel’s security forces, reflecting the extreme caution pervading the city.
Just hours ago, unlit helicopters buzzed over East Jerusalem as the police launched a manhunt for a gunman who attacked a local police station.
Sirens blared for hours, intensifying the sense of unease, while rumours and counter-rumours swept through the city, leaving residents anxiously awaiting the next development.
Tear gas and flashbangs were reportedly used against rioters, adding to the chaos on the streets.

Hospitals in Gaza are overwhelmed, with electricity running out due to the war blockade. In response to the escalating conflict, Israel’s military issued an unprecedented evacuation order to nearly one million Palestinians in northern Gaza, signalling a potential ground invasion against Hamas.
Despite the order, Hamas has called on people to stay in their homes, causing widespread panic among civilians and aid workers.
Nebal Farsakh, spokesperson for the Palestinian Red Crescent in Gaza, told Hughes: “Forget about food, forget about electricity, forget about fuel. The only concern now is just if you’ll make it, if you’re going to live.”
