IDF says Hamas has attempted to infiltrate Israel from the sea
The Israel-Hamas conflict will “explode” if Israel keeps “ignoring the Palestine question”, an expert has warned amid reports that a ground invasion of Gaza is imminent.
Israel has bombarded Gaza, killing over 5,000 people, according to reports.
The brutal strikes have come after Hamas terrorists launched an attack on Israel, taking the lives of 1,400, including young infants.
Israel has shared horrifying footage of Hamas’ crimes as its leaders maintain they have no choice but to “destroy” the terror group.
But one expert has warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the conflict will “explode from time to time” if the country continues to ignore the “Palestine question.”
Robert Serry, a Dutch diplomat who served as the U.N. Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, told the New York Times that he and others involved in 2014 peace talks hoped that the more moderate Palestinian leadership in the West Bank would be brought in to lead in Gaza.
He said: “We had hoped that the Palestinian Authority could be brought back.”
Serry was involved in the 2014 talks where it was suggested that United Nations forces control Gaza’s borders while Palestinian militias such as Hamas are disbanded.
The diplomat added that “we allowed the situation to go back to the status quo”, with a fragile cease-fire and “minimum arrangements to keep Gaza afloat.”
Now, he warns: “I hope Israel learns a lesson. If they keep ignoring the Palestinian question, it will from time to time explode, it’s just a question of when.”

Hamas has ruled in Gaza since 2005, when Israel pulled its forces out of the enclave.
Since then, however Israel has controlled what enters and leaves the strip due to security concerns.
With the ground invasion imminent, another warning has been issued by Lt. Col. Thomas Arnold, a U.S. Army strategist.
