The death of a 65-year-old man in custody at a Colorado state prison was caused by strangulation and/or blunt force injuries to the head, according to the Lincoln County Coroner’s Office.
Paul Hack was pronounced dead at 5:09 p.m. on Aug. 17 at the Limon Correctional Facility, a state prison two miles south of Limon with a capacity for 930 inmates.
Lincoln County Coroner Andy Lorensen ruled Hack’s death a homicide on Aug. 30 and released the cause of death on Monday.
The Colorado Department of Corrections has released few details about Hack’s death, citing an ongoing investigation by the department’s Inspector General’s Office.
In an email Tuesday, department spokesperson Alondra Gonzalez wrote the Inspector General’s office is still investigating and that she could not provide further information because of the ongoing investigation.
