A man claiming to be the director of the hospital in Gaza, allegedly being used as a base for Hamas, has apparently confirmed the use of the hospital by the terrorist group, in a video released by the IDF. Allegations have emerged from an Israeli Shin Bet interrogation of Ahmed Kahlot, the director of Gaza’s Kamal Adwan hospital in Jabaliya.
The hospital, located in northern Gaza, was allegedly converted into a military facility under the control of Hamas, according to Kahlot’s testimony.
In footage released by the Shin Bet and Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Tuesday, Kahlot claimed that Hamas had established offices within the hospital and used it as a base for operational activities.
He claimed that 16 members of the hospital’s staff, including doctors, nurses, and paramedics, were Hamas operatives serving in the al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the organisation. Kahlot further claimed that members of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad’s Al-Quds Brigades were also employed in the hospital.

However, it is crucial to stress that these claims are unverified and have only been reported by news outlets connected to the Israeli government and the IDF. The reliability of the information is yet to be independently confirmed.
On December 12, the Hamas-run Gaza health ministry reported that Israeli forces had entered Kamal Adwan hospital, a claim later confirmed by the IDF. Over several days, troops detained around 90 operatives inside the hospital and confiscated numerous weapons. According to a joint Shin Bet and IDF statement, some of those captured had allegedly participated in the October 7 massacres in southern Israel.
Kahlot, who claimed to be a lieutenant colonel in Hamas since 2010, disclosed that the hospital complex housed offices for a Hamas leader and two senior officials. He also alleged that the hospital had been used to house a kidnapped soldier, providing no further information about the soldier’s identity or when the incident occurred.

The hospital director claimed that Hamas leaders chose hospitals as hiding places, believing them to be safe from harm. In addition to operating within the hospital, Kahlot claimed that Hamas used its own private ambulances, which were distinguishable from those used by medics.
He alleged that these ambulances were not volunteered for medical purposes, prioritising their mission over providing assistance to wounded individuals.
It is important to note that these claims remain unverified, and their credibility is contingent on independent verification. The Israeli government has long maintained that Hamas uses hospitals in Gaza for military purposes, and this latest revelation is consistent with previous claims.
