Burglar dozes off mid-robbery and wakes up homeowner with loud snoring

A dozy burglar got himself nicked when he fell asleep mid-robbery and woke up the homeowner with his loud snoring.

The repeat offender slipped through a window of the home in Yunnan, a province in southwestern China, around midnight on November 8 with designs on looting from the house. However, he had to tweak his plans when he heard that the residents hadn't gone to sleep yet.

But ever the problem solver the intruder, surnamed Yang decided to smoke in a separate room as he waited for them to go to bed. However, he fell asleep himself.

South China Morning Post reported that the homeowner, surnamed Tang, was sleeping with her child when loud snores woke her, but she initially brushed it off as noise from the neighbour's house.

She then noticed the snoring getting louder when she went to wash her child's milk bottle and decided to investigate further. Then she found Yang sleeping soundly on the floor in another room.

She alerted her family and police came and arrested the man, revealing that he is a repeat offender.

He was jailed for theft in 2022 and was released from prison in September, AsiaOne reported.

"This is too funny. The thief brought the police to his doorstep," one commented on the story on social media.

Another said: "If he was so tired, maybe he should not have 'worked' overtime."

"I wonder what the sentence is for breaking into the home and not stealing anything?" asked a third.

The official Weibo of Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau named the man as Yang Moumou, and added that he has been "criminally detained by the police".
