All Rishi Sunak’s bizarre lectern slogans in pictures

Today Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced changes to some of the UK’s environmental policies.

Included among the changes was a scrap of the 2030 ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars which was pushed back to 2035.

Mr Sunak’s speech also saw the debut of a brand new slogan on a brand new lectern.

The slogan, which said “Long-term decisions for a brighter future” is the fourth different phrase to appear on one of Mr Sunak’s lecterns in the past year.

The first phrase to appear in a major speech was “Ready for Rishi”.

This was the slogan chosen for Mr Sunak’s Conservative leadership campaign and highlighted how his campaign believed the country was ready for him as PM.

According to reports, the Ready for Rishi domain name was first registered on December 23, 2021, months before Boris Johnson resigned as Prime Minister.

Later, the domain automatically redirected to a website under the name ready4rishi.com. In a 2022 speech, Mr Sunak said: “Someone has to grip this moment and make the right decisions. Because the choices we make today will decide whether the next generation of British people will have more opportunities than the last.”

The next slogan to appear in front of Mr Sunak was “Grow the Economy”, a reflection of one of his five aims as Prime Minister.

The other four aims were to halve inflation, reduce debt, cut waiting lists, and stop the boats.

Grow the Economy would appear again when Rishi Sunak made a speech in Tokyo in May.

Shortly after, in June, the phrase “Stop the Boats” would grace Mr Sunak’s lectern when he discussed the UK’s immigration policy and what they were doing to control migration.

The latest slogan, “Long term decisions for a brighter future”, was created to mark a change to several flagship environmental policies.

Speaking about the changes, Mr Sunak said the Government was taking a pragmatic approach.

He said: “In a democracy, this is the only realistic path to net zero. Consent, not imposition.

“That’s how we’ll turn the challenge of net zero into the greatest opportunity and the greatest achievement of our lifetime.”
