It’s the stuff of dreams, a Disney island in the Bahamas, that boasts a Little Mermaid-themed play area. Lighthouse Point will be a new destination for Disney cruise ships when it opens in 2024.

The new retreat will be Disney’s second private island following the success of Castaway Cay. Lighthouse Point is on The island of Eleuthera and was designed in collaboration with local artists to reflect Bahamian culture.

Disney cruise passengers will be able to visit the stunning beaches, where they can take part in activities or just enjoy the sunshine.

According to Disney’s website, visitors will be able to dig their toes into “the blush-sand shoreline”. It said: “Dive into the vivid blue waters and be mesmerised by stunning vistas of the shimmering Caribbean Sea, stretching endlessly into the horizon.”

The island’s east coast will include a family beach. There will also be a family-friendly water park with slides and an area just for toddlers.

For sporty guests there will be a volleyball court, gaming pavilion and the chance to hire bikes and boats. People travelling without kids can enjoy the adults-only beach and private cabanas will be available to rent.

Speaking earlier in the year, Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager at Disney Cruise Line, said: “At Disney Cruise Line, we have a deep appreciation for the Bahamian community.

“We are connected in many ways, including our shared values of storytelling and hospitality. With the opening of Lighthouse Point, visitors from around the world will experience the magic of The Bahamas in a new way, one that truly celebrates its natural and cultural beauty.

She added: “About 90 percent of the retreat’s electricity needs will be met by an onsite solar array while the elevated walkways will help limit the impact on the environment.”
