Ryanair passengers have been warned they could face delays of up to two hours on flights from London Gatwick today (Thursday December 14).

A spokesperson said: “Due to UK Air Traffic Control staff shortages, Ryanair regrets to advise we are expecting up to two hour delays on flights to and from Gatwick today.

“It’s time for NATS CEO Martin Rolfe to step down and let someone competent run UK Air Traffic Control.

“Gatwick passengers should not be facing repeated delays and cancellations due to repeated UK Air Traffic Control mismanagement impacting all airlines.

“For any passengers travelling to and from Gatwick today, please monitor the Ryanair App, as this will have the most up to date information regarding your flight.”

Passengers are advised to check for updates on the Ryanair app before travelling to the airport.

Staff shortages at NATS also caused issues earlier this year. Gatwick Airport was forced to reduce the number of flights operating in September.

At the time, an easyJet spokesperson said “ongoing staff shortages are completely unacceptable and must be urgently tackled and fixed”.

Passengers should contact their airline if their flight is delayed or cancelled to discuss their options.

If a flight is cancelled, an airline is usually required to find a passenger an alternative flight if one is available.

This is the case even if the only available alternative flight is with a rival airline.
