The Prime Minister admitted to turning on the festive tunes while working late at night in No 10. But he revealed that fed-up staff and family shouted at him to turn the hits off so he sneaked off to listen in private.<\/p>\n
His admission came as he was asked about the death of Shane McGowan who wrote Fairytale of New York which is seen by many as the greatest Christmas song.<\/p>\n
Speaking to journalists en-route to the COP28 climate summit in Dubai the PM said: \u201cI am a fan of Christmas music in general, which is the main song obviously of his I know.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am a massive fan of Christmas music. Someone outed me on that when I was Chancellor because they accidentally walked in on me singing Michael Buble in advance of some interview, I remember.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo I had the Christmas music on about two weeks ago, and everyone shouted at me, and then I’ve done it in private.\u201d
Mr Sunak revealed he has had the festive jingles on in the background while signing thousands of Christmas cards throughout November.<\/p>\n
He thanked his mum for giving him a short name otherwise the process would take twice as long. He added: \u201cSo I sign all these cards and I do it in the night, and basically that is my time.<\/p>\n
\u201cI put the Christmas music on and I just sit there and sign away, and I’ve been doing that for about 10 days already, yeah, I started about 10 days ago.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Sunak and wife Akshata Murty turned on the Downing Street Christmas tree lights on Thursday evening.<\/p>\n
