<\/p>\nHealth alerts have been issued for large parts of England with experts warning temperatures are set to plummet. <\/p>\n
With forecasts suggesting temperatures will plummet to well below zero during the Arctic blast, and with snow and ice warnings issued by the Met Office, the UK Health Security Agency has issued a Level 3 cold weather alert across northern England.<\/p>\n
During cold weather alerts, health experts recommend checking in on elderly neighbours and people with pre-existing health conditions during the cold spell, and keeping homes heated to 18C if possible.<\/p>\n

The Level 3 cold weather alert covers places including Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, York, Hull, Carlisle and Newcastle.<\/p>\n

The UKHSA warning comes as the Met Office predicts the polar blast will bring snow and ice over the next few days as Brits are warned to prepare for sub-zero temperatures.<\/p>\n
It has issued yellow weather warnings, with snow and ice expected initially in northern Scotland as well as along the North Sea coast in northern England, according to its maps.<\/p>\n

Icy patches and snow are likely on Wednesday morning. Ahead of the wintry blast, a Met Office spokesman said: \u201cWintry showers will lead to ice forming on untreated surfaces during Tuesday evening and overnight into Wednesday morning. Snow will begin to accumulate, especially away from windward coasts, with 1-3cm possible.<\/p>\n
\u201cHigher routes of north-east Scotland may see up to 5cm of snow accumulate.\u201d<\/p>\n

Temperatures in the hills and glens in Scotland could dip to as low as -8C this week, while eastern England could see the mercury plummet to -5C.<\/p>\n
The Met Office \u2013 which reckons that icy conditions will continue well into December \u2013 said there could be \u201csignificant snowfall\u201d on higher ground.<\/p>\n
