But while we know to expect a mark-up on food and drink, one celebrant was gobsmacked to find out the price of a portion of chips at one of Scotland\u2019s largest. Natalie posted about the moment on TikTok saying that Edinburgh market was "hell" due to the cost. <\/p>\n
The unsuspecting Brit was visiting the festive market when she ordered a plate of salt and pepper chicken and chips \u2013 a mix of Chinese takeaway spices, hot chilli pepper and onions with chips and chicken. While it's not your average order at a Christmas market \u2013 people usually opt for Bratwurst, churros or burgers \u2013 international food is popping up at most markets. <\/p>\n

However, Natalie was horrified to be charged \u00a312 for the small plate of spicy food. Meals at such events can often cost a few bob, but she was amazed at the high price.<\/p>\n
She found the cost compared to the portion size obscene. In the video, where she showed the food to her followers, Natalie said: "When they say go to hell but it\u2019s \u00a312 for some salt and pepper chicken and chips at Winter Wonderland."<\/p>\n
The video racked up several thousand likes as she exclaimed at the cost of the meal. Unfortunately, while the UK has some of the top Christmas markets in the world \u2013 with two named in the top 10 \u2013 it can also be expensive. <\/p>\n
The best value Christmas market for booze was recently named as Prague, in the Czech Republic. Mulled wine and local beers are priced low \u2013 plus flights are a bargain too.<\/p>\n
Prague made the list as the cheapest overall popular Christmas market with a beer costing just 75czk (\u00a32.68) on average and a mulled wine averaging 90czk (\u00a33.22). That\u2019s a fantastic price comparable with costs associated with cheap pub chain Wetherspoons here in the UK. Plus, return flights to Prague from the UK cost from \u00a340.<\/p>\n
But, there\u2019s another market that\u2019s meant to be the best value of them all. Riga, in Latvia, has just been named Europe's best value Christmas market for Brits, boasting the likes of \u00a33.50 mulled wines and return flights from \u00a333.<\/p>\n

It came out on top in the Post Office's annual 'barometer' which looked at costs for flights, meals, snacks, accommodation and transfers to\/from the airport. The city came out with a total price tag of \u00a3506 for two people, for two nights; including your flights, accommodation, two evening meals for two with wine, coffees, and festive treats at the main Christmas market.<\/p>\n
The price of four mulled wines came in at \u00a314.26 \u2013 working out at approximately \u00a33.50 each \u2013 while a three-course meal for two people with wine was about \u00a380 per person. We think that's a pretty good deal.<\/p>\n
