David Cameron has already jetted off to Ukraine for a chat with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about the ongoing war with Russia.

The former prime minister-turned foreign secretary needed just a couple of days in the job to set up a face to face meeting in Kyiv, outlining Britain's support to Ukraine.

A video shared on social media by Zelenskyy, shows Cameron leading introductions to his team before they sat down to discuss what the UK can offer people of the war-torn nation, invaded by Vladimir Putin's troops in February 2022.

Zelenskyy's captioned thee clip: "Hosted @David_Cameron on his first visit to Ukraine as Foreign Secretary of the UK. We had a good meeting focused on weapons for the frontline, strengthening air defense, and protecting our people and critical infrastructure. I am grateful to the UK for its support!"

Viewers are also treated to Cameron's first message in the job since his shock return to the cabinet, widely likened by social media users to that of football's 'Big' Sam Allardyce.

The 57-year-old who bowed out of Number 10 in 2016 after leading Britain to a referendum on Brexit, told Zelenskyy: "I wanted this to be my first visit, personally. I admire the strength and determination of the Ukrainian people and what I want to say by being here is w will continue to give you the moral support, the diplomatic support, the economic support but above all the military support that you need. Not just this year, next year but for how ever long it takes."

During the conversation, Cameron broke into a smile as he confessed to disagreeing with fellow ex-PM Boris Johnson. One such debate the pair were on opposing sides on, was Brexit. In 2019, Cameron accused Johnson of "trashing the government" for his claims about the EU without sufficient evidence to back them up.

He continued: "I had some disagreements with my friend Boris Johnson who we've known each other for 40 years. And his support for you was the finest thing that he in term did giving his backing 100%. So it's really important to have this meeting to hear what it is you most need, to work out how we can work together, how we can get the communications right with all our friends and allies, you know, to make sure the attention is here in Ukraine and I feel this very personally."

Zelenskyy responded with immense gratitude particularly given the conflict between Israel and Gaza which he has seen divide international politics.
