<\/p>\nThe grim corpse of a mystery sea beast has left experts scratching their heads.<\/p>\n
The orange monster has fish-like qualities but is not quite like one. It is long and tapered, with white marks laid out on what vaguely resembles a head. They look like the features of a face, but not quite.<\/p>\n
It was found in Keiss, Caithness, Scotland, by Gregg Jenkinson and his son Tyler, and the pair were left astonished by their find. \u201cWe were up there on holiday, driving to John O\u2019Groats, and on the way, we were just exploring harbours because they are beautiful,\u201d Gregg, 36, said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe stumbled upon this one, so went down to take a look. My son spotted it first \u2013 he said \u2018look, an octopus tentacle\u2019 as that\u2019s what it looked like from a distance.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we got closer, we could clearly see it was a fish, but no idea what sort. It looked kind of fatty and it was when we touched it with a stick. I felt intrigued as it\u2019s something you never see in Stoke-on-Trent where we are from.\u201d<\/p>\n
The size of the beast was among the chief reasons it was so beguiling \u2013 Gregg reckoned that from top to tail it was about three feet long, its orange body broken up by black stains.<\/p>\n
He posted on his dedicated aerial photography Facebook page, DroneHub, with the caption: \u201cShort of an alien invasion I have no explanation to what it is\u201d.<\/p>\n

Helpfully, one person commented: \u201cI am a fisherman, and I can tell you categorically: I\u2019ve no idea.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rob Deaville, of the UK Cetacean Strandings Investigation Programme (CSIP), noted too the struggle to identify the beast. \u201cLooks like the decomposed remains of some kind of small cetacean to me,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can see a folded-over dorsal fin and the maxilla of the skull protruding from the melon\/head at the front. As to species, that's difficult to say from this alone.\u201d<\/p>\n
The head of Scottish strandings for CSIP, Nick Davison, noted: \u201cI agree with Rob \u2013 it would appear to be the remains of a small cetacean, but we\u2019d need better images to be sure. We did have a common dolphin about a mile south of the harbour the day before, but this isn\u2019t that animal.\u201d<\/p>\n
