Germany has set out to build up a stronger military breaking from decades of defence policy in the wake of the war in Ukraine.

German leader Olaf Scholz declared the strategic policy change during a political-military conference presenting the deep change in the world order.

He declared: “Today, nobody can seriously doubt what we in Germany have been avoiding for a long time, namely that we need a powerful Bundeswehr.

“Our peace order is in danger,” he stressed and argued that Germany needed “a long-term, permanent change of course.”

Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has also spoken of a need for the German military, known also as the Bundeswehr, to undergo an upgrade.

It outrages and shames me deeply,” Scholz said. “Any form of antisemitism poisons our society. We do not tolerate it.”
