Russian drones launched a series of attacks on civilian targets near Ukraine’s second-largest city of Kharkiv, resulting in a fire, according to officials.

The attacks occurred against the backdrop of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s recent claim in his nightly address that desperate Putin’s army was “losing control” of the Black Sea, further escalating tensions in the region.

Reports from Kharkiv confirm that the overnight drone attacks led to multiple explosions that were heard across the city. Regional governor Oleh Synehubov expressed grave concern as a civilian site in the area was struck by the drones.

Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov promptly responded to the situation, assuring the public that efforts were underway to bring the fire under control. In his address, Zelensky said: “Russia is gradually losing control of the Black Sea and retreating to the eastern part of the waters.

“I am confident that Ukraine will definitely win. Be confident in yourselves.”
