Unlimited access to all our content.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.images.express.co.uk\/img\/logo\/logo-premium-subscription.png\"><\/p>\n<p>The Government response reads: \u201cWe will look to update Local Transport Plans to include the need for Local Transport Authorities to produce local electric vehicle (EV) charging strategies and ensure provision of chargepoints.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen parliamentary time allows, we also intend to take powers to issue directions to Local Transport Authorities to produce local charging strategies if they have not done so as part of Local Transport Plans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the petition, a whopping 94 percent of respondents felt there should be a body in control of providing sufficient charging infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Over 70 percent of those who took part said this should be the local authorities in every region.<\/p>\n<p>Many respondents said that a \u201cstatutory obligation\u201d to provide chargers would lead to an increased number of bays. They also believe the scheme will deliver \u201cwinder consumer benefits\u201d such as improved reliability and cost of topping-up.<\/p>\n<p>However, 15 percent thought there were some negative aspects with worries over how to resource the project.<\/p>\n<p>The Government response added: \u201cWe are investing to further support local authorities to plan and ensure provision of local public charging infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis includes the \u00a3381million Local EV Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund and the On-street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS).
