A top-notch pintman who is trying to drink 2,000 jars in 200 days is due to complete his remarkable challenge today – and is expecting a big crowd to cheer him over the line.

Jon May is heading to the Market Tavern in Atherstone, Warwickshire, and is expecting up to 300 people to come and watch him crawl over the line. He said he is “really, really” excited about the prospect, and hopes everyone who comes down spends cash and gets smashed.

“The pub are asking for numbers and it is literally anywhere between 50 and 300… people that are turning up,” he told the Daily Star. “I didn’t think people would actively turn up to a pub. It is very different watching a video to actively turning up to a pub.

He’s not been to the Market Tavern before but reckons it’s set to rake in a load of cash as the venue for him getting over the line. “I’ve asked [the bar manager] how much money he thinks he’s going to make and he’s thinking like three or four grand… he’ll be happy with that.”

Jon, 25, says he now needs around 15 pints to get drunk, something he said would “come in handy” on the final day of his challenge as he works to sink bevvy number 2000. "I’m going to do the 2,000th pint which will be at about six o'clock and I’ve then got about another four hours of drinking. What I’m hoping is everyone around me is hammered so I can just go about my stuff.”

He said he’s “really, really” excited. “I’ve got some of my mates coming as well…I’m glad that it’s not just me I don’t really want 300 18 to 21-year-olds in a pub for me and it’s only me."

Being in a pub where people are there to recognise his achievement will be a refreshing change for Jon, who has been forced to make concessions during his journey. He’s been going to a number of different boozers on his epic quest in a bid to avoid “weird” moments when people start recognising him.

“People look,” he said. “‘I think, why are you looking at me? You know that you know me, I know that you know me, just come up to me and say hello and let’s stop this weird eye contact that we’ve now got.'”
