Faro in Portugal has seen the biggest drop in flight prices in the past 12 months, with airfares to the city in the Algarve region plummeting by 24 per cent.<\/p>\n
That’s according to Skyscanner’s Travel Trends 2024 report, which reveals the 10 destinations abroad that offer Britons the biggest bang for their buck in terms of plane-ticket prices.<\/p>\n
Those seeking a budget jaunt to the French Riviera or Turkey (T\u00fcrkiye) are also in luck – Nice is third on the list with flights down 19 per cent, while Dalaman ranks fourth (-13 per cent) and Antalya is fifth (-12 per cent).<\/p>\n
For travellers looking to the U.S, Boston and LA have seen the biggest drop in flight prices (joint seventh, -10 per cent), followed by New York (joint eighth, -9 per cent) \u2013 offering further incentive to book a trip across the pond.<\/p>\n
Other destinations for budget-conscious holidaymakers are Frankfurt, Germany (joint eighth, -9 per cent); Zurich, Switzerland (sixth, -11 per cent); and Algiers, Algeria (second, -23 per cent).<\/p>\n

Tokyo, Japan – 208%\u00a0<\/p>\n Source: Skyscanner Travel Trends Report 2024<\/span><\/p>\n Though Gov.uk\u00a0recommends that tourists visiting Algeria are met on arrival at the airport and use a ‘reputable tour operator with good local knowledge’ for their own security.<\/p>\n The ranking is based on Skyscanner data showing prices for flights from the UK in the past 12 months compared to 2022.<\/p>\n Also revealed in the report are the top 10 trending destinations, according to Skyscanner flight searches from the UK.<\/p>\n Topping the table with an astonishing 1,235 per cent boost in flight searches is Vigo, a city on the northwest coast of Spain.<\/p>\n In second place is Leipzig, Germany, which has seen a 545 per cent increase in flight searches, followed by Rimini in third, up 362 per cent. It’s named Italy’s iconic beach city by National Geographic.<\/p>\n Lesser-known destinations on the list are Bydgoszcz, a city in northern Poland (fourth, +313 per cent); Sapporo, the capital of Japan’s mountainous northern island Hokkaido (+276 per cent); and Billund, Denmark (ninth, up 219 per cent).<\/p>\n Completing the top 10 is Osaka, Japan (sixth, +231 per cent); Nantes, France (seventh, +229 per cent); Chiang Mai, Thailand (eighth, +221 per cent); and Tokyo, Japan (10th, +208 per cent).<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Those seeking a budget jaunt to the French Riviera or Turkey (T\u00fcrkiye) are also in luck – Nice (pictured) is third on the list with flights down 19 per cent, while Dalaman ranks fourth (-13 per cent) and Antalya is fifth (-12 per cent)<\/p>\n <\/p>\n New York, above, ranks joint eighth on the list of destinations with the biggest drop in flight prices, with airfares down nine per cent in the past 12 months<\/p>\n The study also looks at key sources of travel inspiration for 2024, with the most popular being word-of-mouth.<\/p>\n Film and TV is second, according to Skyscanner, which sees flight searches increase for destinations related to ‘binge-worthy series’ such as Emily in Paris, it says.<\/p>\n Other drivers are live music events, world-class restaurants with affordable prices, and ‘celebrating big milestones in style’, it adds.<\/p>\n Naomi Hahn, VP of strategy at Skyscanner, said the report reveals that ‘more than ever, cultural exploration will be a priority for travellers in 2024’.<\/p>\n She added: ‘We’re seeing a broad spectrum of cultural curiosity in travel, from gig trippers, jetting off to see their favourite artists, to budget bougie foodies seeking the very best food experience – at the very best price.<\/p>\n ‘The cost of living, though, remains top of mind and our money-saving tools continue to rise in popularity. Our “Everywhere” search, showing prices from the lowest to highest from airports to global destinations, is the top search destination for travellers globally this year.’<\/p>\n The research was conducted by OnePoll in August 2023, based on responses from 2,000 UK respondents.<\/p>\n
