Two-thirds of drivers (65 percent) say music is a key part of any car journey \u2013 with one in five enjoying some chilled-out tunes while they drive. A poll, of 2,000 motorists, found 19 percent would describe themselves as a \u201cSunday Driver\u201d, and are laid back when it comes to playing DJ on the road.<\/p>\n
But a more controlling 13 percent won\u2019t let anyone else touch the radio controls \u2013 it\u2019s their way, or the highway.<\/p>\n
A further 11 percent describe themselves as \u201cRoad Trippers\u201d, and plan their playlists meticulously if they\u2019ve got long journeys on the horizon.<\/p>\n
And one in ten (nine percent) are \u201cA Little Racey\u201d, blasting the tunes at a super-high BPM and driving like they\u2019re getting away from a bank job.<\/p>\n
The research was commissioned by Discovery Channel, to mark the 20th anniversary of Wheeler Dealers, as well as all-new episodes from Monday at 9pm.<\/p>\n
The show\u2019s presenter, Mike Brewer, said: \u201cI think we\u2019ve all been a Sunday Driver at times, although I\u2019ll admit to being a Radio Ruler \u2013 as I like to be in control of the tunes when I drive.\u201d<\/p>\n
It also emerged Sunday Drivers find solace in their motoring melodies, as 53 percent use music in the car to help reduce their stress levels.<\/p>\n
Whereas 45 percent of those that like to ride at a racier pace enjoy driving to faster paced songs and sounds, to help them stay alert.<\/p>\n

More than two-thirds (67 percent) of \u201cRoad Trippers\u201d are so devoted to their chosen playlists, that they\u2019ll sit in the car waiting for a song or podcast to finish before getting out.<\/p>\n
And 72 percent of \u201cRadio Rulers\u201d \u2013 who like to be in control of the music when driving \u2013 find their driving experience is tainted when listening to hits they have no interest in.<\/p>\n
The study, via OnePoll, also found 21 percent have been left \u201cred-faced\u201d behind the wheel, after other drivers have spotted them singing along to their favourite hits.<\/p>\n
But three-quarters say they enjoy the driving experience much more when they are listening to songs they like.<\/p>\n
It emerged pop is the most popular genre to blast in the car, followed by rock and RnB \u2013 with 76 percent of those who play music while driving claiming upbeat hits are best.<\/p>\n
However, it\u2019s not just listening to their favourite hits that drivers enjoy during a car journey, as 34 percent like looking at the scenery.<\/p>\n
And other favourite pastimes include chatting to passengers (26 percent), and enjoying a bit of solitude (28 percent).<\/p>\n
Wheeler Dealers co-host, Marc \u201cElvis\u201d Priestley, said: \u201cNo-one should be made to feel embarrassed by singing in the car. The louder the better, in our opinion.\u201d<\/p>\n
