Game-changing supersized overhead luggage bins are increasingly commonplace &#8211; with Lufthansa fitting them in 2025<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Airspace L Bin, by Airbus, will be fitted to 38 of Lufthansa\u2019s A320s\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>American Airlines launched the Airspace XL on its Airbus A321 neo aircraft<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><span>READ MORE:\u00a0BA vs Ryanair vs easyJet mystery-shopper test<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The chaos of passengers scrambling to cram cases into overhead stowage compartments on planes is increasingly likely to become a thing of the past.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s because new breeds of extra-large overhead bins have been rolled out, with more inked-in to be fitted in the near future.<\/p>\n<p>The new Airspace L Bin, by Airbus, will be fitted to 38 of German carrier Lufthansa\u2019s A320s in January 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They provide 60 per cent more bag capacity than the previous-generation A320 bins, allowing for three extra bags per bin and able to accommodate bags that are 61cm (height) x 38cm (width) x 25cm (depth).<\/p>\n<p>For reference, the large cabin-bag allowance for Ryanair is 55cm (height) x 40cm (width) x 20cm (depth).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/17\/19\/76671067-12627879-The_new_Airspace_L_Bin_by_Airbus_will_be_fitted_to_38_of_Lufthan-a-18_1697567974082.jpg\" height=\"473\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The new Airspace L Bin (above), by Airbus, will be fitted to 38 of Lufthansa\u2019s A320s in January 2025<\/p>\n<p>Airbus said: \u2018L Bins are designed to be retrofitted in three to five days, which is Airbus\u2019s fastest and most cost-effective A320 retrofit solution.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018This results in less aircraft downtime for the airline. Secondly, L Bins allow space for three extra bags per bin, creating a better experience for customers and crew when boarding and deplaning.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The carrier added: \u2018The bins, made of ultra-lightweight and highly stable composite products, will be manufactured by EFW (Elbe Flugzeugwerke GmbH).<\/p>\n<p>\u2018As with all Airbus retrofits, reusing the same components to minimise waste is a key consideration. The L Bin reuses many parts of the original bin, including the sidewall, ceiling and lighting.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/17\/19\/76671073-12627879-Airbus_said_L_Bins_are_designed_to_be_retrofitted_in_three_to_fi-a-20_1697568073391.jpg\" height=\"357\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Airbus said: \u2018L Bins [above] are designed to be retrofitted in three to five days, which is Airbus\u2019s fastest and most cost-effective A320 retrofit solution&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>American Airlines, meanwhile, was the launch customer for the Airbus Airspace XL overhead luggage bin, which can accommodate cases up to 60cm in height (24 inches) x 40cm in width (16 inches) x 25cm (10 inches) in depth.<\/p>\n<p>American launched the Airspace XL on its Airbus A321 neo aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>Airbus Head of Commercial Services Europe, Charbel Youzkatli, said: \u2018We know from talking with airline customers that bigger bins are a clear need to enhance the passenger experience.
