A young woman has been left with a \u201cmonster\u201d black eye and a wonky face after being headbutted by a furious cow.<\/p>\n
Cathrene Mieras was walking her family dog on a leash through the cattle field when she was attacked. She had headphones in and was listening to a podcast at the time.<\/p>\n
The 26-year-old didn\u2019t see anything out of the ordinary when she meandered into the field in Cumbria. But mid-walk the rampaging beast caught the corner of her eye.<\/p>\n

She had no time to escape before the 70-stone beast attacked, headbutting her twice, before wandering off. She was left screaming in pain and calling for help.<\/p>\n
Catherene was rushed to hospital for an x-ray with a "monster" black eye and a "wonky" face. She also suffered jaw pain and couldn\u2019t eat solid food for two weeks afterwards.<\/p>\n
The 26-year-old said: "I thought it was going to kill me, it's the most scared I've been in my entire life. I started walking into the field, and the next thing I remember is I looked up, because I was looking down at the dog saying 'good boy', and this big brown cow was just charging towards me.<\/p>\n

"It dipped its head and headbutted me twice. The last thing I remember is this massive head hitting me. It was just that one cow on its own.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don't remember how it got off me, I think I just screamed. If there's any doubt in your mind, or if you have a fear of cows, just avoid them."<\/p>\n
This was the first time the keen walker often walks through the official footpaths \u2013 always with her dog on a lead \u2013 and has never been bothered by cattle until now. She put the unusual aggression down to the hot weather on September 4.<\/p>\n

She added: "They couldn't see anything on the x-ray thankfully, it was just really really swollen so they booked me in for a follow-up appointment. It was two days before I could open my eyes again.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was more the development of the bruise in the days after that was more shocking because it just seemed to get worse. When my eye opened it was full of blood and you could see the visible swelling on my jaw and this big lump on my eye. I still have numbness now, I don't have sensation in my face.<\/p>\n
"It's going to be a long time before I can be around them, I'm lucky to be alive. Apart from the fear of cows, I just forced myself to get out and about again. It puts into perspective how amazing your own body is at adapting and overcoming."<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, the Daily Star reported that cows are the UK\u2019s deadliest animals and attack humans thousands of times a year. But experts fear the true figure is much higher.<\/p>\n
In recent years dozens of people have been killed by cows according to official data by the UK Government\u2019s Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Previously experts have called for new laws to protect the public from \u201ckiller cows\u201d, claiming an increase in aggressive behaviour by cattle.<\/p>\n
