The Indian auto industry registered its best-ever passenger vehicle sales last month. 3,63,733 cars and SUVs were sold in September, as automakers pushed dealer dispatches to build stocks ahead of the upcoming festivals.<\/span><\/p>\n Seven of the 16 car, SUV and MPV manufacturers in India registered combined sales of 3,28,669 units, which is an improvement of 7% over the previous year. 11 other carmakers registered sales of 34,301 units during the same month.<\/span><\/p>\n Toyota accounted for 22,168 units, registering the highest YoY growth of 44%, followed by MG Motor India with a 31% improvement in sales. Mahindra had the third-highest growth of 20%. Tata Motors was the only brand among the top 7 to record negative YoY growth during this period.<\/span><\/p>\n Passenger vehicle sales have surpassed the 3,25,000-unit mark for the ninth straight month this year, with SUVs and MPVs accounting for most of the total sales.<\/span><\/p>\n Over 20 lakh passenger vehicles were sold in the first half of the current fiscal. By the end of September 2023, the industry recorded 20,60,996 units of sales, a YoY growth of 6.41%.<\/span><\/p>\n
