<\/p>\nA couple have revealed their understated first purchase after becoming millionaires through the National Lottery.<\/p>\n
Craig and Karen Mitchell, both 53, had been away on holiday with pals when Craig spotted a message from The National Lottery on his mobile. Karen thought \u201cit might just be a tenner,\u201d but told Craig to \u201cring The National Lottery and see\u201d.<\/p>\n
They had been due to go out sightseeing but after discovering they had won the EuroMillions UK Millionaire Maker this plan soon fell apart and they and their mates found themselves in the bar by 3pm necking \u201ccelebratory cocktails\u201d. This all sounds rather by the book, but the item they consider their first purchase with their newfound fortune was something a little less predictable or decadent.<\/p>\n

In love with the duvets they had been sleeping under during their holiday, Karen explained that it was a set to take home that they made a b-line for after they\u2019d won. She said: \u201cThe feather duvets at the holiday home were amazing, way better than ours at home.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo once I knew we\u2019d won, I got in touch with the owners to ask them where they bought their duvets from. Possibly not your obvious first purchase as a lottery millionaire but the perfect duvet is one luxury I am very happy to get a taste for!\u201d<\/p>\n
With this unusual first port of call in the bag, they moved on to some more conventional uses of their cash. Karen explained: \u201cFirst and foremost we will be helping out our boys and close family members.<\/p>\n
\u201cKnowing that those dearest to us will also benefit from the win is the icing on the cake to this whole amazing adventure. We\u2019ve already paid off the mortgage and wasted no time in replacing that lease car \u2013 I\u2019ve already found myself a Mercedes EQC, while Craig is taking his time and building a shortlist of dream cars. I think he\u2019s currently stuck between an Audi GT and a BMW M3 \u2013 not a bad dilemma to have!\u201d<\/p>\n

Both of them are planning to stay in work despite their newfound riches with Craig explaining how much Karen, a specialist Macmillan Sister in palliative and end-of-life care with Mid-Yorkshire Trust, loves her career.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cKaren\u2019s career means so much to her and while her work is incredibly rewarding, it\u2019s also very traumatic and does take its toll. Knowing that we have that buffer in our finances to enable us to head off for a weekend here and there to escape \u2018reality\u2019 will make such a difference for us, and ensure Karen can continue to be the very best version of her nursing self.\u201d<\/p>\n
