More than 10 Brits are now feared to be “dead or missing” in Israel as a result of the terror attack onslaught from the Hamas militant group.

Of the 10, only three have been identified – Corporal Nathanel Young, 20, Dan Darlington who was visiting from Germany where he lives, and Jake Marlowe, from London, who was reportedly taken captive by Hamas while working as security at a music festival in southern Israel. The former has been confirmed dead by his family, who posted on Facebook that they were “heartbroken”.

They added: “Our little brother Nathanel Young was tragically killed on the Gaza Border yesterday.”

EasyJet and other European and US airlines paused flights, although British Airways and Israeli airline El Al – which flies from London and Manchester – are both continuing, with the latter flying “in accordance with the instructions of Israeli security forces”.

However, Hungarian airline Wizz Air, which accounts for nearly 10% of Israel's incoming flights, has stopped operating for the time being. This makes it even hard for families of those who have been confirmed to have died, as Jewish laws dictate that bodies must be buried within 24 hours of their death – although this can be pushed back a day or so depending on rabbinical approval.

“International borders (air and land) in Israel and the OPTs could close at short notice. You should check with your airlines and travel insurers before travelling.”
