Police have arrested a sixth person in their investigation into the destruction of the Crooked House pub in Dudley.

Staffordshire Police said today a man from Leicestershire, 23, had been taken into custody on Tuesday (October 3). The force said the arrest was made on suspicion of conspiracy to commit arson with intent or being reckless as to whether life was endangered.

The suspect has been released on conditional bail. The latest arrest is the sixth made by police, following on the heels of four men and one woman.

All the arrests have been made in connection to the August 5 blaze at the 18th-century pub formerly regarded as the wonkiest in the country, the destruction of which has caused a national uproar. All arrested parties, including the men, aged 33, 44, 51 and 66, and the woman, aged 34, have been released on conditional bail.

The investigation into the fire at the beloved boozer is ongoing, police have said, and people with information are being urged to come forward. Activists have been frequenting the site of the old inn, which had a distinctive 16-degree slant, since it was subsequently bulldozed following the fire.

South Staffordshire Council has been assisting police with the investigation, which is understood to have seen officers pouring over CCTV footage. The site was bulldozed shortly after the fire at the pub, prior to it having been treated as arson.

Facebook and community groups have sprung up in the wake of the building being raised in a bid to get it reconstructed. The iconic boozer pulled in people from around the world to check out its quintessentially British appeal. Locals have since regaled tales of being able to roll ping pong balls down the bar as it was on such a slant.
