In a shocking incident that left a local restaurant owner out of pocket, a bride and groom, along with their 80 guests, enjoyed a grand wedding celebration at the La Rotonda restaurant in Frosinone, Italy.

The lavish event, which took place on September 24, turned sour when the newlyweds fled the country without settling their bill.

Restaurant owner Enzo Fabrizi, who operates La Rotonda, recounted the ordeal where a 40-year-old local man married his 25-year-old German wife in an extravagant ceremony.

The couple had initially visited the restaurant seven months prior and paid a deposit of €3,300 (£2,858), with an agreement to clear the remaining €8,800 (£7,620) bill before the deadline on September 27.

To Fabrizi’s dismay, the couple not only failed to pay the outstanding amount but also hastily left the country, leaving him in a financial bind.

And to think that I thought of everything: flowers, music… the decoration alone cost me €400,” he lamented.

The situation escalated to the point where local authorities had to be involved. Fabrizi revealed that the family had enjoyed the ceremony by the swimming pool, followed by a sumptuous meal prepared by the restaurant. Despite their initial agreement and the extensive preparations made for the event, the couple fled, leaving Fabrizi struggling to cope with the financial loss.

Speculations suggest that the newlyweds might be hiding in Germany, evading any repercussions for their actions.

Mr Fabrizi said a mutual friend introduced him to the groom.

Don’t miss… He told Corriere della Sera: “He only knows that he is in Germany because the bride is from Germany (and was working in Rome). They are not responding to messages and I think they have changed their phone number because the line now immediately disconnects.

“I trusted them because my friend has always been a man of his word. A serious person and he assured me that the father of the bride worked in a German bank. So basically a family with money. When her father was sitting at the table I went over to speak to him but he spoke in German and so without knowing the language we couldn’t talk.”

Of the wedding he said: “They ate, danced and drank as much as they wanted. They left at around 10pm and they were almost all drunk.” Mr Fabrizi said he spoke to the groom about bill. “We did the calculations and he shook my hand and told me he would come by the next day to pay,” he said. “The next day, however, he took the plane to Germany.”

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you.
