Nissan has announced that it is committed to producing a fully electric range of vehicles by 2030.<\/p>\n
The news follows the announcement that Rishi Sunak plans to delay a number of sustainability measures, including pushing the ban on new petrol and diesel cars in the UK to 2035.<\/p>\n
Makoto Uchida, the President of Nissan, explained why the company is committed to having a purely electric lineup by 2030.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cEVs powered by renewables are key to us achieving carbon neutrality, which is central to our Ambition 2030 vision.<\/p>\n
\u201cNissan will make the switch to full electric by 2030 in Europe \u2013 we believe it is the right thing to do for our business, our customers and for the planet.\u201d<\/p>\n

More info<\/p>\n However, the Prime Minister\u2019s announcement that the UK\u2019s ban on new petrol and diesel cars and vans will be delayed five years to 2035 has led to some motorists thinking twice before making the switch to electric.<\/p>\n Shortly after Rishi Sunak\u2019s statement, the vehicle retail platform Carwow revealed that 41 percent of motorists are less likely to buy an electric car in the next year.<\/p>\n Nevertheless, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) noted that sales of electric vehicles are strong in the UK, with experts predicting they will account for 17.8 percent of all new car sales during 2023.<\/p>\n Nissan is currently the only automotive manufacturer that produces electric vehicle batteries in the UK and produces the Leaf EV in their Sunderland factory.<\/p>\n However, many other companies have voiced their concerns that the plans to delay the ban could see UK industry receive less investment to refit production lines for electric vehicle productions.<\/p>\n Lisa Brankin, Chair of Ford UK, said: \u201cOur business needs three things from the UK Government: ambition, commitment, and consistency. A relaxation of 2030 would undermine all three.\u201d<\/p>\n
