Four suspects have been arrested by cops investigating the deaths of three people thought to have come into contact with the same “noxious substance”.

Police swooped on two men and two women after linking the deaths of Kevin Conway, 41, Stephanie Alderson, 35, and Kathleen Broomfield, 43.

All three were found dead in the same part of Teesside over the past few months, with Stephanie and Kathleen found this week.

Among those nabbed for administering the substance was a 43-year-old woman, who is suspected of being connected to all three deaths in South Bank, near Middlesbrough, between July and September.

Two men, both 47, and a 39-year-old woman have been arrested in relation to the death of Kathleen. All four remain on bail while inquiries into the crimes continue, Cleveland police said in a statement.

Kevin was the first of the three suspected poisoning victims to die, and his body was found in a property in Ajax Way on July 15.

His sister Claire said: “Kevin was a much-loved son, father, brother and friend to everyone who knew him. Words cannot describe the devastation of his unexpected passing.”

Stephanie was found at another property in Ajax Way on Monday (September 18). Her mum Glennis said: "Stephanie was a much-loved daughter who will be greatly missed."

And the following day, the cops were called to a report of the sudden death of Kathleen at a property in nearby South Court, which is within half a mile of Ajax Way.

Her heartbroken brother Paul said: “There are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are, you will be forever in our hearts.”

Police confirmed they were “investigating any links” between the deaths, which officially remain “unexplained” as tests for drugs and poison are under way.
