A Ryanair flight erupted into chaos as passengers cheered after a woman slapped a man in the face, with the bloke arrested soon after.

Allegedly drunk and disruptive behaviour from the bloke brought police presence onto the plane, with the Ryanair flight from Manchester to Faro, Portugal, turned back. Passengers were heard cheering once the alleged drunk was hauled off the plane by police.

His actions on the flight, according to one person who was on board, were "very violent" and saw him start a "mid-air fight". The unnamed eye witness aired their claims to LiverpoolEcho following the flight.

His claimed behaviour toward two female passengers saw one of them rise against the bloke, slapping him across the face. Ryanair has since spoken of the incident, confirming a "disruptive" passenger.

A spokesperson for Ryanair said: "The crew of this flight from Manchester to Faro on September 18 requested police assistance after a passenger became disruptive on board.

"This flight turned back to Manchester and this passenger was removed from the aircraft by local police before the flight continued safely to Faro following a short delay. This is now a matter for local police. We sincerely apologise to affected passengers for any inconvenience caused as a result of this passenger’s disruptive behaviour."

Greater Manchester Police later confirmed the incident. Two representatives for the force were spotted on the flight, walking down the aisle to the allegedly disruptive passenger.

A GMP spokesperson told the ECHO: "At around 6.25am this morning, Monday, September 18 officers were called to reports of a disruptive passenger on a flight bound for Faro.

"Upon the plane returning to Manchester Airport, a man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of being drunk on an aircraft, two counts of common assault and a Section 4a public order and remains in police custody for questioning."
