El Al Israel Airlines has begun flying to Fort Lauderdale.

In the immediate term, the service is temporary. El Al is operating six roundtrips between Fort Lauderdale and Tel Aviv during the Jewish High Holiday season. The first such flights were on Wednesday ahead of the start of the Jewish new year Rosh Hashana Friday evening.

But El Al has bigger plans for Fort Lauderdale. Starting April 15, the airline will fly twice weekly between Fort Lauderdale and Tel Aviv, operating the service on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner equipped with business, premium economy and economy cabins.

Fort Lauderdale departures will be Monday and Saturdays, with returns on Monday and Friday.

Fort Lauderdale will complement nearby service from Miami. El Al currently flies Miami-Tel Aviv six times per week, Cirium flight schedule data shows.
