Russian forces attacked a Ukrainian port on the border with NATO \u201cfor almost three hours\u201d overnight, killing at least one person, local officials have revealed.<\/p>\n
Dozens of Iranian-made Shahed-136 kamikaze drones have been shot down over the Ukrainian ports of Reni and Izmail in the last three days alone.<\/p>\n
Last night\u2019s attack on Izmail resulted in one person dying in hospital from serious injuries while \u201cdestruction and fire were recorded in several settlements\u201d, according to the regional governor Oleg Kiper.<\/p>\n
The targets sit on the Danube River, which demarcates the border between Ukraine and Romania, and have become vital hubs through which to circumvent the Russian military blockade in the Black Sea erected after its withdrawal from the grain deal.<\/p>\n
Romanian President Klaus Iohannis said on Tuesday (September 4) that the attacks had taken place \u201cvery, very close\u201d to his country\u2019s border. Bucharest has strongly condemned Russian attacks on Ukraine\u2019s Danube infrastructure.<\/p>\n
FOLLOW BELOW FOR LIVE UPDATES…<\/strong><\/p>\n A statement published by Mr Kiper at 3.51am, 40 minutes after reitering an air alarm warning, said: \u201cFor almost three hours, Russian terrorists attacked the Izmail district of Odesa with attack drones.<\/p>\n \u201cUnfortunately, one person died. The employee of the agricultural enterprise, who was seriously injured, died in the hospital. Sincere condolences to family and friends…<\/p>\n \u201cDestruction and fires were recorded in several settlements. Objects of port and agricultural infrastructure were damaged: elevators, administrative buildings, agricultural enterprises.\u201d<\/p>\n Ukraine\u2019s State Emergency services later shared photos (above) of their firefighters tackling the flames in Izmail.<\/p>\n Good morning from London.
