An out of control dog has been shot dead by a group of swarming police marksmen.

The incident happened after a woman was bitten in Oldham.

A man was arrested in Lea Green Close, Moorside on Sunday morning, with armed police and a police helicopter seen on-site.

Two dogs were initially reported as roaming around the area, with them then attacking a woman and her cockapoo dog.

She was taken to hospital, suffering from "bit wounds", but the fate of her dog is unknown.

According to local media reports, the dogs appeared to be Alsatian or Husky type dogs which had been cross bred with a bulldog-type breed.

One witness said: "About five unmarked police cars came screaming up and parked right outside our property. We saw a number of police officers get out with guns and tasers.

"The approached the dog, it was on next door's drive, and kind of circled around it. Within three seconds they shot it at point blank."

The witness, writing on a local Facebook group page, claimed the dog was seen "approaching people's doors" and that officers "didn't want to take any chances".
