Woman fuming as boyfriend not allowed into UK bar ‘for being too old’

A woman has been left fuming at a city centre bar that refused entry to her boyfriend because he was "too old".

The reveller, who wishes to remain anonymous, has claimed that she and her 48-year-old boyfriend were stopped from heading into Revolution De Cuba, Manchester, by a member of security.

Their excursion into the city on January 22 appears to have come to a sudden end after members of the door staff allegedly refused them entry and subsequently threatened to assault the unnamed woman.

The woman, who says she was left "disturbed" by the incident, also claims that said door staff pushed her phone out of her hands once she started recording the incident, MEN reported.

A spokesperson for Revolution De Cuba has since said they were "appalled" to hear about the incident and have since confirmed the security member involved in the altercation no longer works for the venue.

Speaking on the incident, the unnamed woman said: "We went up to the door and the doorman asked me who I was with. My partner is 10 years older than me. He pointed to him and said 'no, too old.'

"He doesn't even look 48 but they determined he was too old to go in. There were a lot of young girls going in. I asked for their Security Industry Authority number and said it was discrimination.

"He just said 'oh you're too drunk.' I don't understand where he got that from but it's just a standard response isn't it."

After being unable to get his SIA number, the woman began filming, at which point "one of the bouncers, a big guy, said if I filmed him he would assault me."

She continued: "I was filming and the bouncer came over and hit my phone out of my hand. I said it didn't matter what he did with my phone as it was all backed up.

"I'm quite disturbed by the whole event. I rang the police and they said if it's not an ongoing emergency I needed to call 101 but I haven't done that yet.

"We were having a good night out and just wanted to get in somewhere and then we're told we're too old. My partner was angry, he was fuming about it."

A statement from Revolution De Cuba read: "We were appalled to hear about this incident – the safety of our guests is of the utmost importance to us and we demand that everyone is treated fairly and with respect at all times."

The venue also stated that Professional Security UK, who provide security for the bar, would "not be working at any of our venues in the future."
