Britain has announced it will give Ukraine new rockets to blast Vladimir Putin’s cruise missiles out of the sky. The ground-to-air AMRAAM rockets – which are already being used to protect the White House and the upcoming football World Cup in Qatar – will help to shield Ukraine’s cities and critical national infrastructure from Russian bombardments. The rockets will work with American NASAMS air defence systems and are due to arrive within weeks. Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said: “These weapons will help Ukraine defend its skies from attacks and strengthen their overall missile defence alongside the US NASAMS.”

Meanwhile, the British Ministry of Defence found Russian troops were attempting to consolidate a new front line in Kherson after being pushed back by a Ukrainian counter-offensive.

The latest MoD intelligence briefing found: “After retreating around 20km in the north of the Kherson sector in early October, Russian forces are likely attempting to consolidate a new front line west from the village of Mylove.”

Kremlin sets out one trigger from West that would ‘guarantee World War 3’

The admission of Ukraine to Nato could result in a third world war, the deputy secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Alexander Venediktov, told the state TASS news agency in an interview on Thursday.

He said: “Kyiv is well aware that such a step would mean a guaranteed escalation to a World War Three.

“Apparently, that’s what they are counting on – to create informational noise and draw attention to themselves once again.”

Mr Venediktov also repeated a Russian position that the West, by helping Ukraine, indicated that “they are a direct party to the conflict”.
