A new US documentary about Prince Andrew paints a damning portrait of the man frequently described as the late Queen’s “favourite son”.
In director Jamie Crawford’s film Prince Andrew: Banished, various royal experts describe the Duke of York as "spoiled", "a bully" and "an idiot”.
In the documentary, which premiered on streaming channel Peacock this week, Crawford promises “new interviews with palace insiders, journalists, members of Andrew’s social circle, and the legal team that brought the [Jeffrey Epstein] allegations to light,”

One voice that is missing from the film is that of the prince himself.
“We wanted to hear from Prince Andrew as much as we possibly could through the film and therefore really worked hard to dig out as many interview clips and moments of him speaking for himself,” Crawford told Vanity Fair magazine.
While the prince declined to speak to Crawford’s team, they were lucky, the director said, that “our archive team was able to find these interviews from decades gone by that were really telling, and they just let him be himself, and then you as a viewer can make your own mind up about it.”
Some peoples’ minds are already made up. Former royal press secretary Dickie Arbiter, who was interviewed by Crawford, told him: "The problem is, the man's an idiot. There's always one runt of the litter, and Andrew was it.”
He singled out the prince's decision to take part in a Newsnight interview with Emily Maitlis as particularly ill-advised
Majesty Magazine editor-in-chief Ingrid Seward added that Andrew was “very spoiled.”

Crawford says that his documentary “takes a deep dive into the world of privilege, jealousy, desire, and greed that pushed Andrew; first, into the orbit of notorious sex offenders Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, and then into a sordid sex trafficking scandal that threatens to bring down the House of Windsor."
In February, Prince Andrew said in a statement he regretted his association with Epstein.
He wrote: ”It is known that Jeffrey Epstein trafficked countless young girls over many years. Prince Andrew regrets his association with Epstein, and commends the bravery of Ms. Giuffre and other survivors in standing up for themselves and others. He pledges to demonstrate his regret for his association with Epstein by supporting the fight against the evils of sex trafficking, and by supporting its victims."
The Daily Star reached out to Prince Andrew's representative, but they declined to comment.
