Meghan and Harry replaced by Charles and Camilla as fans question new Fab Four

A newly-released picture of King Charles, Camilla, Prince William and Kate Middleton has led royal fans to claim the quartet is the new 'Fab Four'.

Fans quickly scampered to the official Instagram page of the King and Queen Consort where the photo was posted and showered the new "Fab Four" with compliments, with many pointing out the notable absence of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

One person commented: “Amazing photo, the present and the future", while another wrote: “The authentic fantastic four, Queen Elizabeth would be so proud of them.”

Despite the many positive comments, the image was also subject to criticism.

Royal commentators Rachel Bowie and Roberta Fiorito, hosts of Royally Obsessed, expressed their views on the image with Roberta stating something was "lacking".

Ms Bowie said: “I think that it was very noticeable how, it's like a lack of star power, it's just, it's simplified.”

Ms Fiorito replied: “I was just going to say that Rachel, you read my mind. There is like a little bit of and I think, not glamour, I don't want to say it's glamour, but there's…almost like this excitement that's lacking.”

She then claimed that there is an abundance of “male energy” that could potentially overwhelm the femininity of the Royal Family.

She said: “There's just a lot of male energy and I think what's lacking is that bright pastel but also that delicate feminine nature of the Queen and that feels much more exciting and fun, rather than seeing like two kings in a row wearing suits.

Ms Fiorito then added that she believes: “There is a big void from Harry and Megan."

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle instead released their own portrait two days later after the official Royal Family image with royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams saying the Sussexes image "overshadows" the Royal photo.

Mr Fitzwilliams said: “It is not surprising that the Sussexes have released formal images of themselves following the release of the first official photograph of the four most senior royals.

“It isn’t surprising, given the importance of profile to them, that they have released these images."
