McDonald’s has announced that it will never re-open its Russian restaurants again.

The American fast-food giant decided to temporarily closes its 850 restaurants across Russia when Vladimir Putin waged war on Ukraine earlier this year.

With the bloody conflict ongoing, McDonald's chiefs say its business in Russia “is no longer tenable, nor is it consistent with McDonald’s values”.

The chain will now work on selling all 850 of its restaurants in the country.

Chris Kempczinski, McDonald’s CEO, praised the “dedication and loyalty” of its employees and its suppliers in Russia who have continued to be paid despite the closure of restaurants in March.

Mr Kempczinski said in a statement: “However, we have a commitment to our global community and must remain steadfast in our values."
