KFC brings back Double Down, a sandwich with fried chicken replacing bread

As restaurants look for ways to make their fried chicken sandwiches stand out from the pack, Kentucky Fried Chicken is reaching into its past and bringing back a novelty from 2010 called the KFC Double Down Sandwich. It will be available beginning March 6.

This sandwich doesn’t have a bun, instead putting its cheese and condiments between two white meat filets, according to a news release from the chain.

KFC sold 10 million of the inside-out sandwiches when it debuted and last brought it back to the menu in 2014, the news release said.

This time, the Double Down will return for four weeks. But KFC is offering fans early access on March if they sign up for it at kfcdoubledowndrop.com

The pre-order is only available to the first 2,014 people who sign up, the news release said.

KFC announced the return of Double Down on the same day Baskin-Robbins became an unlikely contestant in the chicken sandwich wars, introducing Chick’n & Waffles ice cream as its flavor of the month.

The National Restaurant Association predicted in late 2022 that chicken sandwiches would continue to be a hot trend in its 2023 Culinary Forecast.
