The daring photographer who plunged to his death after falling off a 68-story building didn’t slip, according to a close friend.
Remi Lucidi, who went by the name Remi Enigma, is believed to have become trapped outside the top floor of the Tregunter Tower complex in Hong Kong while climbing the building to snap some pictures.
Lucidi allegedly tried to raise the alarm by frantically knocking on a window and startling a maid inside. She contacted the police but he had already fallen by the time they reached the top of the building.
But now a fellow urban climber known as Dakamaru has cast doubt about the circumstances of the tragic incident.
The man said he spoke to Lucidi only days before his death on July 27 and the pair, who had known each other since 2020 and had completed several climbs together, discussed his plans to tackle his latest challenge.

Dakamaru suggested a skilled and experienced climber like Lucidi wouldn’t have simply fallen off but likely had “spent enough time there to get tired and not be able to keep to it any longer.”
He told the Daily Mirror: “This doesn’t happen often. We do not just fall. Had my friend had any partner with him to back him up he would still be alive. A comrade would call for help.
“Tragedies such as my friend’s never shake our core beliefs. We know what we’re doing and why we’re doing it. We are aware of the consequences.
“I can’t imagine the process of people telling us, ‘You might fall, it’s dangerous, you will die if you fall’…Well, imagine what a massive revelation this is for us.”
“When you reach a certain level of skill you don’t just slip and fall. It’s not possible. According to the witness, Remi was stuck outside of a window.”

He added: “It must have been a place that he could not manoeuvre out of. He must have spent enough time there to get tired and not be able to keep to it any longer.
“The witness claimed he’d been out on the window knocking. Probably on a thin edge outside. Not much space to move.
“Probably no way to sit, turn, crouch or change position in any way. And no matter how physically fit you are, in such conditions, you’re bound to get tired eventually.”
The climber, who decided not to share his real name, said the pair had met on Instagram in 2020 and “maintained constant contact” over the year.
The pair had been planning to head to Egypt to climb the Great Pyramid in the coming months but now he will only have “photos, videos and beautiful memories.”
