The Colorado State athletics department has a confirmed COVID-19 outbreak, according to state health officials.
As many as 17 people within the department could be COVID positive, according to the state Department of Public Health and Environment outbreak database. The state determined CSU athletics had an outbreak July 21, with eight people having lab-confirmed positive tests and nine likely to have the virus, but not confirmed by a lab. The outbreak remains active.
Earlier this month, CSU announced the football program had zero positive tests during the first round of testing after athletes returned to campus for voluntary workouts. The department began a phased approach to returning student-athletes from various sports earlier this summer.
Athletic director Joe Parker previously said the school had safety protocols in place if positive tests arise, including self-quarantine and contact tracing. It is unknown how many of the positive tests can be attributed to athletes and how many are athletics staff.
