BBC Breakfast host Jon Kay asked Ms Coffey for some clarity regarding when the British public will be able to obtain full details on Liz Truss’s plans to tackle the ongoing energy crisis. Despite confirming the details disclosed for this week, Ms Coffey failed to provide a precise timeline as she said “I’m sure that viewers will want to hear the key details” but “I don’t have a precise time exactly of when that will happen”.
Mr Kay asked Ms Coffey: “I know you’re not going to give us those details right now and it will have to go through the right procedures, but for those people who are crying out this morning, really anxious to know ‘am I going to be able to pay my bills?’.
“Is the government going to help me?.”
Ms Coffey responded: “It certainly will be set out this week.
“I don’t have the precise time exactly of when that will happen, but I know it will be this week.
“I’m sure that your viewers will want to hear the key details of that and I hope that will be assured once they hear it.
Referring to Ms Truss, she added: “She’s been Prime Minister for less than 24 hours, while we’ve been working on plans in the run-up to this potential event, I think it is important that all ties are kicked to make sure that we have a robust energy proposal in order they can be set out to help households and businesses.
“The Prime minister sets out yesterday on the doorsteps of Downing Street her three main priorities about growing the economy, tackling the energy situation, and indeed the NHS.
“In terms of energy, this is a combination of support to households and businesses, but also supporting our energy industry to make sure that we have sufficient energy coming through in the future, so both short-term and medium to long-term proposals”.
