If anyone knows how to go hard in the gym, it’s Method Man. The 50-year-old Wu-Tang Clan rapper has turned his social media presence into a gym highlight reel, sharing big lift like when he broke his own personal record and powered through a 475-pound deadlift.
Now, the rapper is back on Instagram, this time hitting the upper body with some big weights on an incline bench press. He’s seemingly in the middle of some good natured banter at the start of the clip—just before he gets the 100-pound dumbbells into position, he says, “I ain’t calling you out! Watch me, watch this.” He proceeds to knock out 12 smooth reps, and the clip ends. No long description needed for a caption, just: “Hundos💯 This video is for motivational purposes only!”
The incline bench press can be a valuable exercise to target the upper chest muscles—and Method Man is doing a pretty solid job in executing the movement. Notably, he didn’t make the common mistake of lowering the weight too deep and insisting that he touch his chest on each rep. As long as his elbows are below his shoulders and he gets a good stretch on his chest, he’s in good shape. He also avoided another cardinal sin of knocking the weights together at the top, an unnecessary step that some people think is part of the exercise. One spot he could improve would be to change the angle he’s holding the dumbbells so that they’re turned in toward each other, not directly parallel. This slight shift will allow him to externally rotate his shoulders, which is safer for joint health.

Since the pandemic began, Method Man has been keeping his Instagram fans up to date on his progress and his impressive strength. He wakes up at 4 a.m. to go to the gym, and previously told Men’s Health he wants to be as strong as one of the biggest guys in Hollywood.
“My goal is to get to a point where I can take my shirt off in any setting and basically be The Rock, but without the tattoos and the accolades,” he said.
At this rate, Method Man could be close to hitting his goals with these gains. Last year, he shared his favorite exercises, and admitted going to the gym five days a week is what helped him deal with insomnia. According to his workout partner Joey Crespo, Method Man is a “beast.”
